Biblical Answers to the World Mission Society Church of God

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.--1 John 4:1

Are you or a loved one struggling with this group? Do you need Biblical answers about the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCoG or CoGWMS), their founder Ahnsahnghong (Ahn Sahng/Sang-Hong) or their current leader "Mother Jerusalem" (a.k.a. "Heavenly Mother God," Zang/Zahng Gil-Jah, or Chung Gil Cha)? Thank you for coming here. I hope my blog helps you. Questions and comments are always welcome.

About the 144,000

One of the ways the World Mission Society Church of God tries to draw new members is to tell them about how close we are to the end of times, and how plagues and disasters and wars are part of the end times events, and that if they want God’s protection from all this, they need to join the WMSCOG in taking the Passover. This all stems from passages in Revelation chapters 7, 9, and 14, which speak of 144,000 having the seal of God.

If you read some of the Fragrances of Zion that members write and get posted on the main church website (, you’ll see that they call themselves the 144,000 and are waiting for all 144,000 of their lost brothers and sisters to be found so that “Father” can return soon.

So I thought I’d find out more about WMSCOG doctrine concerning the 144,000. Ahnsahnghong talked about it in his book, “The Mystery of God and the Spring of the Water of Life.” Here’s what he said…

On page 77 (Chapter 5), he explains that in the last days, only the 144,000 will be the ones to be saved--left alive and transfigured to go up to heaven.

On page 81 (Chapter 5), he explains that the 144,000 are chosen by God, and that we should not test God, wondering if we are one of the chosen, but should live as though we were certain we were one of the chosen.

On page 85 (Chapter 6), he says that because “144,000” is interpreted by almost all Biblicists as a literal number, some pastors/leaders of large churches want to interpret it differently. He implies that if their church numbers more than 144,000, then the extras won’t be going to heaven, and since the pastors/leaders know this, they interpret things differently (incorrectly) so everyone thinks they will be going.

On page 443 (Chapter 33), he says that in a short period of time after WWII, the seal must be placed on “the 144,000 saints who will go up to heaven alive.” World War Three will not begin until after all 144,000 are sealed, and if you do not have the seal, even if you are one of the elect, you will die either in disasters or in the war.

On page 445-447 (Chapter 33), he says that the Seventh-day Adventists also believe the 144,000 will go to heaven alive, but since they believed the last days started in 1844, and everyone alive in 1844 is dead now, then they must have been wrong in their timing. He says the sealing did not start in 1844 as the Seventh-day Adventists believe, but it started after World War Two.

On page 447-449 (Chapter 33), he says that the “blood of the Passover Lamb” (keeping the Passover) is the seal that is required to escape the last plagues and enter heaven.

According to all these statements and interpretations, we can get a picture of Ahnsahnghong’s view of the 144,000, but I still have questions:

--My sister told me that the 144,000 will not be the only ones saved and going to heaven. If the church is teaching that the 144,000 are not the only ones to be saved, then that sounds like a contradiction. What are they actually teaching now, and is it the same as what Ahnsahnghong taught?

--If the 144,000 are specially chosen and you can’t know if you are one of the chosen but should live as though you are, that means that there can be people who follow all God’s laws, keep all the feasts, and keep the Passover so they can have the seal, and still not be one of the “chosen”. What about John 1:12 which says, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name,” and John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (Emphasis mine) How sad to be told that if you do ALL the church requires you will be spared from the last plagues, only to find out that you might not be saved from those plagues after all.

--WWII ended in 1945 and WWIII hasn’t happened yet, so according to Ahnsahnghong, we are in the last days and the 144,000 are currently being sealed? And according to him, if the church has more than 144,000 members, some of them will not be going to heaven with them. The church website says that they have 1 million members, and that they reached 200,000 members back in 1999. If only 144,000 are being taken to heaven alive, what is the church teaching will happen to the rest? Do they die in the end disasters and plagues and then join the others in heaven? Or do they just die in the end disasters and plagues and tough luck, no heaven for them? Or...?

  1. When I posted about this on the Cult Watch forum, I received an answer from former WMSCOG member, "More Water". I thought it was really interesting, so I'm going to repost it here. It would be great if someone can add to it, confirm it, or...?

"I was a former member, thank God I am out. I can shed some light on some of the questions. "Mother," a while back (a year ago maybe) announced that the sealing of the 144,000 was done, so I guess many of the new members are out of luck. She used some random verse from the bible which states that salt purifies the water of the world then they went to revelations and used the great multitude verse (great multitude represents fresh water). So, then they went on to multiply 3%(% of fresh water on earth) by the world population = 180 million. So, to answer your question, the church of god now needs 180 MILLION MEMBERS or BELIEVERS. Unfortunately for them, they will die in the disasters unlike the 144,000 but will still go to heaven. However, the members still teach new members that they can still be part of the 144,000 because who knows, some of the original chosen can die spiritually and they can lose "their crowns" to someone who was not originally "chosen." If a member dies then they use the excuse that they were part of the "great multitude.""

(And by the way, I did the math... The current world population was estimated at 6.6 billion in 2007. 3% of that is 198 million. If, out of a church of 198 million, only 144,000 had the seal, that's only 0.07%! Only a miniscule number of them would have the seal, yet it's one of the major doctrines for drawing new members.)

  2. ...and I still haven't seen this big thing that is going to make people get baptized like crazy. I don't know how much longer they can keep on saying soon...and when is this war going to start? It's been a long time now since I have stepped into that "church." I'm really curious to know as to what they are saying about the end. I bet now it is coming soon soon soon. Oh yeah and i forgot, I'm not sure if the member #'s accounts for the # of people that have left the church.

  3. Well I am on the same page as you both are and have found my way out of the church. I just wanted to add that in Revelations 21:1 and 2 It is written [ Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”[a] for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.]

I guess this means that heavenly Jerusalem will come after the new heaven and new earth is placed and not before that. Off course i m not a scholar but it seems worth mulling over, because if Heavenly Jerusalem has come the where is the New heaven and New Earth.

  4. That is a good point, Ammu. Thanks for commenting about it.

The first heaven and earth have not passed away, and yet "Mother Jerusalem" is already here, according to the WMSCOG.

But in reality the Jerusalem of Rev. 21 is not a person but a city, composed of the believers who make up the Church.

  5. Ya, WMSCOG teaching totally contradict what Ahn Sahng Hong taught in his book "The Mystery of God and the Spring of the Water of Life" on page 77(Korean-English Edition) as mentioned by Genny. If you read page 77 of the said book, Ahn Sahng Hong mentioned that children of promise = remnant = 144,000. And he also stated that only the 144,000 will be saved.

But WMSCOG teaching is that there will be two groups: 144,000 and the multitude. Both will still go to heaven and have salvation just that the only difference will be the fact that only the 144,000 will go to heaven alive. The multitude will somehow die physically first in the world-end disasters and then will proceed to heaven afterwards.

But Ahn Sahng Hong did not mentioned anything about the multitude and he did stated very clearly in his book that only the 144,000 will be SAVED and transfigured to go up to heaven alive. This is what I understand and know so far, if there are any ex-members reading this about the 144,000 please I would greatly appreciate if you can add on something that we do not already know, if indeed there is any. Or if you know what is the church response to Genny three questions up there please also let us know.

So far my stand is this: If WMS said that there will be other persons that will be saved apart from the 144,000, then they are contradicting what Ahn Sahng Hong taught in his book on page 77. If they said that the 144,000 are the only ones that will be saved and go to heaven, then as per Genny there will be many who did all that the church required of them and still fail to reach heaven, if based on the current 1.2 million members of WMSCOG as per their official website, then that is only about 12%.

Also I read the "more water" article up there I did not quite get it why they had to multiply the world population by 3% and then come out with the figure. Is this figure the maximum number of members that WMS can have or what? In any case as per Genny the church will need around 198 million members based on the world population of 6.6 billion in 2007. And how long will it takes for WMS to have that number of members? Seeing that now they only have 1.2 million members? 198 - 1.2 = 196.8 million

  6. Hi, Edmond. Thanks for sending in the comment. :)

I recently found an article posted on the main church website that references the 3% mentioned by "More Water." You can find it here (scroll down to the bottom):

Their chief pastor Kim Joo-cheol said that his personal opinion is that salvation of 3% of the world's population is a "realistic goal." He said, "Self-cleansing ability of the sea comes from the 3% of the salt in it. If we lead 3% of mankind to salvation, I believe that we can purify the whole world."

Personally, I wouldn't call that a "realistic goal." The estimated world population in mid-2010 reached more than 6.8 billion, so the goal keeps getting higher all the time. 3% of 6.8 billion is 204 million. And as far as I know, they still expect the world to end in 2012 (or earlier), so they haven't much time left.

But I also noticed that he slipped in that it's his "personal opinion," which means the church isn't bound to that figure as if it were a statement from 'Mother.'

  7. Could someone direct me to somewhere where I could obtain an "uncultified" copy of the Green Book. I'll need one to try to help these two ladies in the Cult who have been trying to get me to study with them. That people actually believe in the lies that these people preach baffles me...

Also, a nice copy of the Hebrew Bible would be nice as well. That way I could get to work on debunking the "Elohim" nonsense...I have a degree in linguistics, and the lie about the word "Elohim" is blatantly obvious to me. Maybe it takes a little explaining to Koreans...

  8. Clevis Taylor,

Here is an online link to the "Hebrew Bible" or the Tanakh as it is called in Hebrew. It is in the correct form of the Torah, Nevi'im (prophecies)and Ketuvm (Writings)

Torah - Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy
Prophets - Joshua, Judges, Samuel, Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi
Writings - Chronicles, Psalms, Job, Proverbs, Ruth, Song of Songs, Ecclesiastes, Lamentations, Esther, Daniel, Ezra / Nehemiah

Genny, has some links to the word Elohim. Unfortunatly WMSCOG has taken the word Elohim out of context.

  9. Please, tell me, how does the World Mission Society Church of God take the word Elohim out of context?

    1. You can read about the wmscog's misuse of "Elohim" starting here:

  10. On March 19, 2013, "youknow nothing" posted:
"Genny,I'll call myself True Knowledge, let me ask you a question; as a matter of fact, this question is for all who claim the World Mission Society Church of God is a "cult" If you're all so correct in your accusations then why isn't God Almighty allowing your view to be acknowledged by the world? Why aren't you leading others to follow the way of "truth"? Why aren't you teaching the Bible? You're only attacking the Church of God. If the World Mission Society Church of God is wrong why is God Almighty who reigns over the Heavens and the earth allowing the World Mission Society to have such remarkable growth? I've read through this website and I laugh because your accusations are completely false. However, you dont want to talk to me about it because you will be exposed on your own website. Have a conversation w/me about your "accusations" the bible will prove you wrong. But you won't because even you don't believe what you're posting on this website. LOL, you dont know what you believe. Email me at youreafalseprophet@[removed] and have a real conversation."

    Dear youknow nothing,

It is my intention to teach the truth of the Bible at the same time as showing the errors of the wmscog. If there is a specific subject you think I have been lacking in that, please let me know because I would be happy to try again.

About the growth of the wmscog, if "remarkable growth" is a sign of God's approval, what do you say to the other reilgions who might claim "remarkable growth," like Islam or Mormonism or Wicca or even other branches of Christianity?

If you find that my "accusations are completely false," please mention specifically what you find false so that I might correct it. You are welcome to email me for further conversation:

I wasn't sure if you really wanted an email conversation, because if you did, I expect that you would have already emailed me (my email address is in the "about me" page). I removed part of your address for privacy's sake. Thanks for your comment, and I hope to hear more from you.

  11. Jenny, is it important if one is part of the great multitude Rev 7:9 or the 144.000 Rev 14:1-, or is it more important to follow the lamb wherever he goes Rev 14:4. and teach everyone on earth Gods Commands.
This is explained well in 1 John 2:4- a liar is explained here completely it is one who teaches others to not follow Gods Commands. This begs the 2nd question what Commands of God do you follow Jenny so far I have seen no evidence in your site to answer this question.
