Biblical Answers to the World Mission Society Church of God

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.--1 John 4:1

Are you or a loved one struggling with this group? Do you need Biblical answers about the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCoG or CoGWMS), their founder Ahnsahnghong (Ahn Sahng/Sang-Hong) or their current leader "Mother Jerusalem" (a.k.a. "Heavenly Mother God," Zang/Zahng Gil-Jah, or Chung Gil Cha)? Thank you for coming here. I hope my blog helps you. Questions and comments are always welcome.

News and a Challenge

Ahnsahnghong was the founder and pastor of a church while he was alive.  I've often wondered what happened to his church after he died in 1985, especially since the World Mission Society Church of God's doctrine does not quite match the teachings in Ahnsahnghong's books.  Thanks to a recent commenter, now I know, and I've got to share it with you all.

There is another church in Korea, called the New Covenant Passover Church of God, which also claims to be founded by Ahnsahnghong.  Except, the New Covenant Passover Church of God (NCPCOG) prays in the name of Jesus (not Ahnsahnghong) and does not believe in a "Heavenly Mother Jerusalem."  Neither do they accept Zahng Gil Jah as "Mother God."

It turns out that there was some turmoil in Ahnsahnghong's church after he died, and it split.  The NCPCOG kept to the teachings of their founder, while the WMSCOG developed the ideas of a "Jerusalem Mother," male and female gods, and the deity Zahng Gil Jah.

The website for the NCPCOG has lots of information, but it's all in Korean.  Some friends and I are working on translating it, and I'll keep you all posted on new developments.  For one thing, it would greatly improve my opinion of Ahnsahnghong if he were merely a misguided Bible scholar instead of a self-proclaimed Christ.

This brings me to another point...

In all my reading of Ahnsahnghong's writings, there are two things I've never come across: 1) Ahnsahnghong claiming to be God, the second coming of Christ, and 2) Ahnsahnghong mentioning a "Mother God."

I challenge WMSCOG members to show me where Ahnsahnghong said either of those things.  I'm not asking for the verses and prophecies and explanations that your church uses.  Show me where Ahnsahnghong himself teaches these two things.  Which book?  Which chapter or page number?

There haven't been any WMSCOG members commenting here in a while (since February, I think).  I really do want to hear what you have to say.  I know WMSCOG members support their church by commenting on other sites.  Why not this one lately?
--Is it because you've been told to avoid my website?  Why?  Are your leaders worried about what you'll find?
--Is it because you don't have any good response for the issues I've raised here?  Doesn't that make you concerned that something is wrong with the WMSCOG?
--Is it because you don't think I'll listen to you?  I can't post every comment because I can't edit personal information or rude words in them very well.  But I do read and consider them all, and you can always send me a message by email.

  1. PS - Here's another website to one of Ahnsahnghong's churches:
    http://www.cogjw.org/
It's called Church of God Jesus Witness.

  2. Do you know which church was established first? NCPCOG or WMSCOG? Do you have proof? I need hard core evidence!!! I am awaiting translation of the book he wrote about the wedding feast and my mother walks with God. help!!!!

  3. I am awaiting translations too. If you happen to know someone who speaks Korean, they could help you. That's what I've been doing--translating as much as I can with google's translator and then finding help to finish and correct the translation from Korean friends. It takes time, though. It would be nice if there was an official English translation already done.

My friends talked with the NCPCOG, and what I gather is that the church during Ahnsahnghong's time had an entirely different name, like "Church of God Ahnsahnghong Witness". After he died, it split. They both claim to be Ahnsahnghong's true church, but it appears so far that the NCPCOG holds more closely to what Ahnsahnghong originally preached.

However, there were some problems in Ahnsahnghong's original teachings, so this doesn't necessarily mean that the NCPCOG is preaches Biblical truth either. But at least they aren't showing the contradiction of disagreeing with their founder, like the WMSCOG does.

    Wish I could help more.

  4. Oh no, not google translator! I can help you translate. Korean, believe it or not, is my secnd language, and I am fairly proficient (though not fluent) in it. So if you would like my services with anything Korean, I would be happy to help. It is quite literally my day to day job, translating and speaking Korean.

I am sure you have found others by now, too. But the more the merrier.

Loving this blog, by the way.

  5. Hi Sunny,
I'm glad you like my blog. I pray it is helpful to you. And thank you for your offer of help with the Korean translation. Google translator is helpful but limited. I think I'll have time to get back to the translation challenge in January. I'd love to hear from you by email (knowhispeace@gmail.com) if you'd like to help. Thank you!

  6. Hi Genny,
Thank you for all the hard work you do to help disprove this "church". Our son has told us that according to the Hebrew calendar, Ahnsahnghong's birthday falls on Dec. 25 this year. Are you able to confirm whether this could be true or not? I suspect it is just a ploy to get them away from their families on Christmas day.
Thank you for any help you can provide

  7. Hi Friend,
That just sounds so ridiculous! But sometimes things that sound ridiculous are actually fact, so I looked it up just in case...

I don't know Ahnsahnghong's birth date on either the Gregorian or the Hebrew calendar. But I can tell you this:

Dec. 25, 2011 = Kislev 29, 5772 (comparing the Gregorian to the Hebrew calendar)

If you go back to 1918 (Ahnsahnghong's birth year) and look up Kislev 29 you find:
    Kislev 29, 5679 = Dec. 3, 1918

So, no. There is no way the two dates match. I agree with you and suspect it's a made up excuse to keep them busy and not with their families.

Maybe your son can share with us Ahnsahnghong's actual birth date (on any calendar)? That would be something I'd like to know.

    Thank you for the encouragement!

  8. Thank you Genny, just as i suspected, but i knew you would be the one who could confirm. I'll let you know if i find out his actual birth date. Your helpfulness is much appreciated. I wish you peace and happiness for the Holidays

  10. Our friends on Facebook shared that Ahnsahnghong's birthday is Jan. 13, 1918, and that the wmscog meant Dec. 25 is the equivalent on the lunar calendar (not the Hebrew calendar). So I decided to check that out...

The Korean lunar calendar is the same as the Chinese lunar calender. Korea switched to the Gregorian calendar in 1895, but still celebrates traditional holidays on the old calendar.

I found a calendar converter for the Chinese calendar that says:
Dec. 25 of 2011 is the 1st day of the 12th month,
Jan. 13 of 1918 was also the 1st day of the 12th month.
So that's how they got it.

I found some other interesting things, but I'll put them in a new post...

  12. I found on one site that Ahnsahnghong's birthday was December 1st 1918 & that He died in February 1985. According to that evidence, Ahnsahnghong died when He was 66, not 67 according to the prophecy of King David. But now you have helped me to see that Ahnsahnghong did fulfill the full 67 years because His birthday isn't in December, but in January. Thank you!

  13. Hello, I was a member of wmscog, i have stop going for over a year now. I asked a lot of questions about father and mother but I never got straight answers. Now that I know the truth of the history of the church, and important facts that can lead or mislead from the Devine truth, I don't know what to do!!
What church should I go to??
    What teachings should I follow??

There is nothing but wmscog in the US,
    What now?

    1. First, praise God that you have seen the truth about the wmscog and have moved on from there.

"What now?" is a common question, so please don't feel alone. I think it would be a good topic for a future post, so I'll work on that. But I don't want to rush, because I want to be sure to have well-researched advice for you.

I can offer these two things, though...
#1--Research about mind control, so you can understand better what you've been through from a psychological point of view. A good place to start is Steve Hassan's book "Releasing the Bonds" (on my "Recommended Books" page). It includes advice for people coming out of a destructive mind control situation.
#2--Were you a Christian before joining the wmscog? Did you have a Christian loved one praying for you while you were in the wmscog? Go back to that for now. Find a pastor who is willing to talk to you about matters of faith (many are very willing!), tell them what you've been through, and ask for help understanding the truth about Christianity (because the wmscog has distorted it for you). It may turn out not to be the place you want to stay, but it is probably a good place to start. I've heard others say that they studied their way into the WMSCOG, and then they had to study their way out of it.

  14. God bless you genny!! Thank you for the feedback and the advice! Today a brother from wmscog texted me and told me he stop going to the church 3 months ago. He has been through a lot too. We will meet up tonight to talk. I think it will help us both. I hope to God we can not only recover from the mental abuse (because that's what it is) accept it and learn how to move on and rehabilitate our faiths.

Please keep me posted on "what now". I think that is the most important topic for me now.

Yes, before the wmscog I was Christian. I will find a pastor and see where things go from there. Now, it will be hard to accept few changes like Saturday vs Sunday worship, and other facts that a lot of churches don't fallow.

I am open for more advice and anything that can help me get back on track. God bless!!

    1. Hi friend. Yes, that would be good for you having someone to talk to who is going through the same thing.

Here's something to think about... The wmscog probably taught you that perfect obedience is essential to salvation, so you may feel that you have to do everything exactly right. But the Bible tells us that people are allowed to show their faith in different ways and still be acceptable to God. Read Romans 14 to see people can do things differently and still do them to the glory of God.

And here's a resource to show you that the question of Saturday or Sunday worship falls into that category of Romans 14's "disputable matters." Seeing it in that perspective may help us Christians avoid judging each other harshly just for wanting to worship on Sunday, or for wanting to worship on Saturday. Maybe it will also help you with the things you mention that other churches don't follow.
      Blessings to you!

  15. Guys can anyone please tell me the answer for this,
if we read the 1st book of Bible - genesis from chapter 1 to 3 it clearly says God created only 2 humans (Adam & eve), 2 sons were born to them that is abel & cain, then cain murders abel, now in the world only 3 people are there ( Adam, eve, cain)
but if we continue reading chapter 4 cain says to God that his punishment for killing abel is more and Cain says to God that if someone found him they will kill him,
cain marries a women and she's give birth to Enoch so on the generations begin my question are these
    1. if God created only 2 humans that is Adam & Eve, for them 2 sons were born cain & abel, cain murders abel now only 3 humans are there then 1. WHOM DID CAIN FEAR THAT IF THEY SAY HIM THEY WOULD KILL HIM, WERE DID THEY COME FROM
2.WHERE DID THE WOMAN CAME WHOM CAIN MARRIED BECAUSE ONLY ONE WOMAN AT THAT TIME WAS EVE, CAINS MOTHER

    Waiting for your replies
    thanks
    God bless u all

    1. Hello Ashok. I'm curious whether you are a wmscog member or not. This is a reasonable question, but one that I usually hear from non-Christians (more specifically, people who use it as a reason not to believe the Bible). But in any case, I am happy to help you with this question--Who was Cain afraid of and who did he marry?

You say, "genesis from chapter 1 to 3 it clearly says God created only 2 humans (Adam & eve), 2 sons were born to them that is abel & cain, then cain murders abel, now in the world only 3 people are there ( Adam, eve, cain)."

You have made assumptions that are not supported by the Bible. God created 2 humans (Adam and Eve, Genesis 1 and 2)--yes. They had 2 sons (Cain and Abel, Genesis 3)--yes. Cain murdered Abel (Genesis 4)--yes. BUT...

You have forgotten about Genesis 5 which tells us that Adam had other sons and daughters. You are assuming none of them were born yet. At this time, God had not given any commands about who can and cannot be married. It is reasonable that Adam and Eve had many sons and daughters, who grew up to marry each other and have more sons and daughters. Only Cain and Abel are mentioned in Gen. chapter 4, but there is no reason to believe that other children (and even grandchildren) were not also around by the time Cain murdered Abel.

The other assumption you make related to this is how old Cain and Abel were at the time of the murder. The Bible does not tell us whether they were teenagers, or in their 30s, or even in their 50s or 70s or older. What we do know is that Seth was born when Adam was 130 years old (Gen 5:3), and that Seth was born after Abel was killed (Gen 4:25), so Cain and Abel must have been younger than 130. That's plenty of time for other brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews to grow up, multiply, and become a community of people whom Cain would fear, and from which Cain could find a wife.

I hope that helps. And I hope to hear back from you again. Thanks for sharing your question!
