Biblical Answers to the World Mission Society Church of God

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.--1 John 4:1

Are you or a loved one struggling with this group? Do you need Biblical answers about the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCoG or CoGWMS), their founder Ahnsahnghong (Ahn Sahng/Sang-Hong) or their current leader "Mother Jerusalem" (a.k.a. "Heavenly Mother God," Zang/Zahng Gil-Jah, or Chung Gil Cha)? Thank you for coming here. I hope my blog helps you. Questions and comments are always welcome.

The Sin of a Baby

Today marks a heartbreaking anniversary--the day my friend's baby died at just 10 weeks old.  Her story is one of sadness mixed with the love, grace, and faithfulness of God.  I am a mother myself, and the remembrance of that difficult time for them still brings me to tears, even years later.

I am also reminded today of the WMSCOG's teaching that each person here on earth was once an angel, who committed terrible sin in heaven and was cast down to earth.  I've written about this before here, but it bears repeating.

Ahnsahnghong said, "what each one did in the angelic world is to be done again in this world, and he is to be judged both in soul and in body."  (From Visitors from the Angelic World, Chapter 9, page 36)

Now consider my dear friend's 10-week-old baby (we can call him "James"), and here are some questions that arise:

1.  Where is James now?  Doomed to hell because he did not live long enough to take the Passover, believe in "Mother" and otherwise prove himself worthy of heaven?

2.  James didn't have time to do anything in this world (besides eat, sleep, and the normal newborn baby activities).  If the sin he did in heaven was supposed to be repeated in this world, what did he do in this world that was sinful?

3.  If James didn't do anything in this world that was sinful, then what could possibly have been his sin in heaven?

4.  Would you say that his sin in heaven was so great that he didn't deserve a chance at salvation on the earth?

5.  Or would you say that his sin in heaven was so small that it only merited a very brief time in "prison"?  But if that were the case, then James is still doomed.  Here's why...

Ahnsahnghong said,
The first death, the death of the body, is due to the natural sin inherited from Adam....  And the second death, the death of the soul, is due to the sin everyone committed in the world of angels....  All men die; after the death of their body, their soul is to be judged according to what they have done....  After being punished, the soul comes to an end with death forever.  This is the second death.  (Visitors from the Angelic World, Chapter 9, pages 36-37)
James' body would have received its punishment for "the natural sin inherited from Adam," but his soul would have not gained the pardon from the sin "committed in the world of angels."  He would still be due for punishment, his soul experiencing the second death.

And now do you see the terrible implications of this teaching?  Would anyone like to volunteer to explain it to James' parents?  Not I--it's sad enough just to think about it.

Praise God, though, James' parents are Christians.  They are confident in knowing where he is and are filled with hope of seeing their son again one day.

  2. I'm so glad you wrote, Justin.

Yes, I have seen that video and others even more shocking and dramatic (one with people burning up from a nuclear bomb). I have also seen documents of theirs that claim the end will be in 2012 or earlier, and I've heard from some members that the end could be any day now.

Steven Hassan's BITE model lists one of the marks of a mind control group as "excessive use of fear." That's one thing I've seen myself with the WMSCOG--using fear to manipulate emotions.

But the Bible tells us, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." (2 Tim. 1:7 NKJV)

We must not let fear (or any other strong emotion, like guilt) cloud our judgment. Mark 13:22 says that there will be false christs and false prophets. It's our responsibility to investigate what we're being told. (That's true about any organization that asks for a commitment.)

Also, Mark 13:32 says that no one knows the day or the hour, only the Father. We are not supposed to be setting dates predicting the end. Of course, that will make it easy to spot a false prophet when their date fails.

    From a sister in Christ,
    genny :)

  3. It makes no sense to think that a newborn baby would have to get horrible suffering in hell due to his or her terrible sins commited even before born. This kind of thinking can be found just in non-sanity minds, certainly, just in perturbed minds, like those psychopathic ones (I say this as a psycologist I am).

Thank you for helping us to be aware of the very serious risks of this wolf-in-sheep's-clothing cult.

  4. Thank you for sharing your comment, Carlos. Somehow it makes sense to the people who developed this doctrine, and those who continue to believe it. Very sad, isn't it?

  5. Hi,
My partner (6 months ago) has become involved with WMSCoG............ she won't talk to me about what is being said to her about 'end days' etc. Just wondering what is the latest on this from the Church if anyone out there knows? I have seen/heard 2012 being thrown about - is there anything more specific ?
    Cheers,
    Nathan.

  6. Hi Nathan,
Ahnsahnghong did write about an end date of 2012, but it's hard to get members to talk about it. It seems that some know but don't want to share, and others don't even know. I think you'd be interested in the articles here about it:

  7. If adam and eve had sinned in heaven then death decree came for them in heaven because "wages of sin is death" but according to the scripures

Gen2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

They were still immortal until they ate forbiden fruit.

And soul was not given to adam in the creation of mankind
Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

God has given breath not the soul, he became a soul (living being) after giving breathe(spirit of life) In DEATH The same "spirit goes back to God who gave it" Ecclesiastes 12:7.

    Job27:3 All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;

  8. Wow genny. I am a member and believe the teachings whole heartedly. Ur friends little baby would not be going to hell what a stupid assumption. This little baby is a beautiful angel in a far better place than this earth where he or she will be waiting patiently for his or her parents to be reunited one day.
The wmscog is not a cult u weirdo. The people r beautiful and loving.

    1. The "we were once angels" doctrine implies that babies who die do *not* go to heaven. If you, as a member, believe that a baby who dies *does* go to heaven, please show me through the wmscog's teachings.
