Biblical Answers to the World Mission Society Church of God

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.--1 John 4:1

Are you or a loved one struggling with this group? Do you need Biblical answers about the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCoG or CoGWMS), their founder Ahnsahnghong (Ahn Sahng/Sang-Hong) or their current leader "Mother Jerusalem" (a.k.a. "Heavenly Mother God," Zang/Zahng Gil-Jah, or Chung Gil Cha)? Thank you for coming here. I hope my blog helps you. Questions and comments are always welcome.

The name of Jesus

When I previously wrote about Ahn Sahng-Hong stating that Jesus is the only name for salvation, a reader expressed trouble in finding that reference.  Well, here is it so you can see for yourself.  This is from the book The Mystery of God and the Spring of the Water of Life, page 181 (Chapter 12).

He says, "salvation is found in no other name than Jesus, not only at His first coming but even in the last days."

Compare this to what the WMSCOG teaches: "Today, salvation is only given through the name of Christ Ahnsahnghong...."  (from The Savior of Each Age and the New Name
I've heard World Mission Society members defend this by saying that since (they believe) Ahnsahnghong and Jesus are the same person, there is no contradiction here.  But it's the name that is important.

They claim that the name of Jesus has expired in this "new age," and the name of Ahnsahnghong is the only one through which salvation is found in these last days.

That is in direct contradiction to their own founder who said that even in the last days, salvation is given only in the name of Jesus.

What does the Bible say?
"Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved."  (Acts 4:12)

Thanks for writing. As far as I've seen, the only was to get an actual copy of this book is to become a member of the WMSCOG. Ahnsahnghong's books are not available to the general public. I also would like to be able to have my own copy of the book and not rely on borrowing.

Why would the WMSCOG would restrict these books if they were truly filled with important truths the whole world should know?

  7. I just wanted to encourage you for having this site. My friends just joined the cult and now trying to talk to anyone and everyone about it. It boggles my mind how these smart people can believe something so heretical. I'm just going to speak the truth to them and pray that they will turn around. It really saddens my heart. But I must say that reading your posts have made me more ready/knowledgeable about the cult. So I thank you and hope that you'll continue to write.

A question... do they believe that the world will end in 2012?

  8. I'm sorry to hear about your friends. I pray that they will see the truth soon.

About 2012... There seems to be some discrepancy about this. Their teaching shows the end to be 2012, based on Ahnsahnghong's writings. But in talking to them, some members don't seem to know this, and those who do seem to know are reluctant to talk about it.

You can see that Ahnsahnghong did teach this. Prof. Tark shows it in his video (on my links page):

    1. actualy about 2012, this year in Jan. after new years and the "I HAVE ALREADY COME" video, mother announced that she has come too. This was a sermon read to us from mother by missionary. She also said that the ARK will be complete this year, and that father is coming this year. In April before the passover, the church announced that mother said this would be the last passover. IT was said just like i'm stating, so wmscog brothers & sisters don't cover it up, you know it's true. I am not lying or misunderstood, I verified it 3 times, and I really don't know what to believe! The world can end any day now, we have 6 months before the 2013, so everyone judge for yourselfs.

Also, I'm sorry I'm not able to email this blog to you. It's just that I don't know how to do that any more efficiently that copying and pasting each article. But I certainly don't mind if you wish to do that for yourself.

  12. Well, Im still a member of WMSCOG but not active. But Im going to speak on both sides of the fence. Im a open-minded person and I dont judge people at all or their beliefs I just ask simple and honest questions. Now I join the church a few months back with my son. From experience the members are nice, thoughtful and really deep in the faith. I cant say one bad thing about them or the church far as character goes. The key points that makes the church of God different is some of the subject they show you is pretty amazing, alot of it made alot of sense and also they do their homework with history. which I like. But their no different then another church far as overall. They claim to have over a million members which 70% are women which nothing wrong with that and half are korean still which is nothing wrong with that. I joined with an open-mind paid attention to alot of the things that goes on the sabbath day. So far as character its a great church and they are very close which thats okay because you should close tight with your fellow brothers and sisters. But at the end of the day, wscog falls short of trying to explain to you about a widowed korean woman they claim is God the mother or God period. Plus last time I checked Jesus didnt die twice lol..I read alot Ah books and you're right not once he mention a heavenly mother and he said one of the books "about jesus is the only name theres no other" Ah said that himself. You made some good points on your blog and differently worth looking into. But I most likely wont bring these question up because their beliefs is very strong and I'll just be beating a dead horse. So I just took some of things I learn from the important studies that were true and study myself and ask God once again lead me. But I dont attend the church not because I dont believe in a heavenly mother because it very well be one but claiming someone is God, a widow woman is over the top, and her dead husband is The Christ which die again in 1985 is way over the top. All imma say is judge for yourself, dont let my account stop you from joining or not joining the church. Go and see for yourself and make you're own decision.....God bless

  13. Hi, bigcedbeatz. Thanks for reading my blog and sharing your comments.

You are correct in that it is up to each person to judge for themselves about the WMSCOG. However it's very important to be well informed about that decision. Unfortunately, if the WMSCOG limits a potential member's access to important information (such as telling them not to read critical information on the internet), that's a bad sign.

The members of the WMSCOG are often nice and friendly and very sincere in their faith. But I have also encountered a lot of animosity and belittling comments when I raise valid concerns about their church, no matter how kindly I speak to them.

In any case, though, sincerity, kindness, and thoughtfulness really have very little to do with whether a church preaches the truth or not. I've known atheists, New Age-ers, Buddhists, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, agnostics, and Christians of various denominations (Protestant and Catholic). In every group I have known people who are thoughtful, kind and sincere in their chosen beliefs (and those who are not so thoughtful, kind, or sincere).

Since there are people in each group who are thoughtful, kind, and sincere, does that mean that each group preaches the truth?
Unfortunately, no. Although those with the truth of God should exhibit those characteristics, the characteristics themselves do not determine whether or not they have the truth. (I hope that made sense.)

    Thanks again. Blessings to you.

  16. I just wanted to forward some information regarding this cult. So it looks like there was a split after Anhsahnhong died and one is WMSCOG and the other is called New Covenant Passover Church of God (새언약 유월절 하나님의 교회there's only 5 or 6 of them in different areas of Korea) and it sounds like they don't believe in Mother God and they actually pray in Jesus' name. It's probably because Anhsahnghong never claimed to be God and never spoke of Mother God before he died. Also they actually put all of the books that ahnsahnghong wrote on their website unlike WMSCOG. It's only in korean so I don't know how helpful this is to you. Here's their website with all the books. http://www.ncpcog.com/bbs/board.php?bo_table=2009_15

  17. My dear Anonymous,
Thank you so much!! I had heard there was some dissension in the church when Ahnsahnghong died, but I didn't have any leads on it. I've been examining the website you referenced and used Google's translator to help decipher it. Yes, it does appear to be as you say--the other splinter from Ahnsahnghong's original church. I'll be working on it and post more when I can.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm so glad this is helpful to you. I'm Korean so I can validate if the google translation is correct or not but I just don't have time to translate all the books or all of the contents in the website. But I'm willing to help!

  19. Thank you, that would be appreciated. We (my friends from the other blogs) have contact that knows Korean too, but it would be nice to have another Korean friend as a source. You can find my email address through the "about me" page. I'd be pleased to hear more from you, and also hear your story of how you are connected with the WMSCOG, if you'd be willing to share. Are you a former member or have family in this cult or...?

  20. Thanks everybody who is commenting on this blog. I had a visit by two ladies who are members of the wmscog before three days. I didn't have time to talk much with them when I welcomed at my house, so we made an appointment and went to their Church today. I spent about two hours discussing on the sensitive issues/doctrines that they are teaching the whole world. They can't answer all the questions I posed and they wouldn't tell me the new name of the second Christ of this third age (according to them). As soon as I came home, I engaged myslef in searching the internet to find out more about the group and their teachings. Thanks to God, I have come to this website and have read for about an hour now. I still have an appointment next week so that we can discuss more. I don't have any interest to join them nor want to inquire for further lies (truths as they say) but my aim is to do my part to share with them the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the only and one saviour of the whole world. So thank you gusy for sharing this valuable information on this website! May God bless you abundantly. Please keep doing this good job and I recomment that you print out pumphlets or tracts to spread out in the city where you live, and where the group is actively evangelizing the false teaching. I pray that God provided you with the needed material and money to share the truth. God bless you again.

  22. i am disappointed in all who follow this person because this does not show anything disproving of christ ahnsahnghong you only like to read certain parts and not the whole truth do you people honestly think that this passage explains the truth of course not and as for the previous comment the church only denies the books to the public because the public twists and takes only certain parts that they want to here just like the fellow who made this if you truly want to understand have a study at the church and ask your questions they will be answered i will pray that you come to understand the truth and that salvation can only come from GOD the father and GOD the mother!!!!! y is that so hard to believe!! if its in the bible why cant you follow!!!!!..... Matthew 7:21 "not every one that says to me lord lord will enter the kingdom of heaven but only those who do the will of my father many will say to me on that day lord lord did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles then i will tell them plainly i never knew you away from me evildoers". what kind of people are you just go around slandering a church this is not what GOD teaches if you dont want to follow the LORD then fine but dont take away other peoples salvation by your false words. i pray that your spiritual eyes will be open and learn the truth

    1. WHERE IN THE BIBLE DOES IT SAY THAT WE HAVE A MOTHER GOD. WE ARE TO PREACH THE GOSPEL OF THE APOSTLES, AND PAUL DID NOT PREACH A MOTHER GOD, AHNSHANGHONG SAYS IN HIS GREEN BOOK CHAPTER 12 PAGE 87 ENGLISH EDITION, THAT SALVATION IS FOUND IN NO OTHER NAME THAN JESUS, NOT ONLY AT HIS FIRST COMING BUT EVEN IN THE LAST DAYS.

      Delete
    2. that green book will get revised again and how can we know for how many years they have been changing the authors words or removing information just to benefit them. Another thing about paul preaching the gospel about the kingdom of god now i heared from my friend who has been preaching to me that mother is the gospel, what a lie! paul never claimed that, he only spoke in galatians 4:26 he is talking about you who want to be under the law, see galatians 4:21 and so on verse 24 he says these things maybe taken figuratively, now look up the meaning of the word. Further more galatians chap 1 verse 6-9 no other gospel!!! so why does wmc teach about a mother god, anyway i know they come here to read, and so this is how and why they are always slightly changing their teachings to their benefit. one more thing Isaiah 55:8 "for my thoughts, are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. <<<<<< just because we have mothers and fathers on earth does not mean GOD or heaven is like us or earth. open up your minds ppl, if you feel something is not right, then it is. so do your research and ask alot of questions, if they can't or won't answer them, or brush you off, OR answer the question with another question, then your answer is CLEARLY there. MAY OUR TRUE GOD ALMIGHTY, BLESS YOU ALL! P.S. to the leaders, decons, pastors who come here, to see how the world feels about them, all i want to say, is THE TRUTH WILL COME OUT, GODS TRUTH ALWAYS STANDS, GOD IS NOT A LIAR, NOR CAN HE BE MOCKED.

  23. Dear Anonymous,
Thank you for taking the time to send your comment. I'll respond to each of your points in turn.

    1. "this does not show anything disproving of christ ahnsahnghong" ... My website addresses problems with Ahnsahnghong as well as Zahng Gil Jah and the World Mission Society Church of God and its teachings as a whole. There is plenty "disproving" evidence here.

    2. "you only like to read certain parts and not the whole truth" ... I have read the entire book, plus other books and all the sermons and materials on the church's official website in their ENTIRETY. I do not read just "certain parts." However, it appears that you have just read certain parts of my website and not the whole thing. I challenge you to read my whole website and see if you still feel the same way.

    3. "the church only denies the books to the public because the public twists and takes only certain parts that they want to" ... How many other authors make their controversial works available to the public. Have you spent much time shopping on Amazon lately? Why are so many others *not* afraid of public scrutiny? Lots of people twist the Bible too, why is the Bible still available to the public? If they have nothing to hide, then their books should be easily available to anyone.

    4. "if you truly want to understand have a study at the church and ask your questions they will be answered" ... I've done this and talked in person with members many times. No, my questions are not answered--they are avoided.

    5. "if its in the bible why cant you follow" ... Because it's not in the Bible.

    6. "what kind of people are you just go around slandering a church this is not what GOD teaches" ... Slander is a very strong word. I am here to expose the truth. Let me ask you, how does the WMSCOG speak about Catholic and Protestant churches? I think you should be careful about who you accuse of slander. And if you mean that God does not teach us to slander churches, then why does the WMSCOG do it? If 'slander' is what you wish to call my arguments, then you must use the same word for the WMSCOG's arguments against the Catholic and Protestant churches.

    7. "if you dont want to follow the LORD then fine but dont take away other peoples salvation by your false words." ... You should also be careful about whose words you consider to be false. Read my whole website. If you find *factual* mistakes, you can let me know. If the problem is just that you disagree with me, well I can't help that.

    8. "i pray that your spiritual eyes will be open and learn the truth " ... And that is what I pray for you. I hope to hear back from you after you do some more reading.

  24. When we were first approached by people from WMSCOG, they couldn't give me a card, didn't know where the church was located, told me that their website was under construction (not true) and the only way we could contact them was by telephone. Then another woman approached us while we were eating dinner at the mall food court. I had researched them before and tried to argue with her a little bit, but we found that she talked so fast that it was hard to keep up. My husband felt, both times, like we were about to get mugged.

I'm hoping to remember many of the things that you pointed out on this site in case I meet them again. I've been praying for the woman I met last night and...I don't know...each time I meet them, I'm agitated for days afterwards.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Isn't that interesting? Why would a legitimate church not tell you where their church was located? Sounds fishy, doesn't it?

But i still want to say, I really hope you don't miss out on the free gift of eternal life. Btw, you also contradicted yourself in the white stone blog, your interpretations of the bible is from men as well. Only God can interpret the bible for you. Christ Ahnsahnghong is our God, all of his scriptures make sense. But it also says in the bible, the secrets are only given to those who will truly understand. God bless you

    1. I agree! I wish they were easily available in English. Apart from having a Korean friend help you, here is a way you can at least get a small idea of what is going on in these books.
      Use translate.google.com for this website:
      http://cogjw.org/noname2.htm
(On their homepage you'll see the photo of Ahnsahnghong.)
Figure out which book you want to see and click on it. Each chapter will be clickable in a table of contents.
If you find google not automatically translating the chapter, you have two options:
      1. go back to translate.google.com with the url of the chapter, or
      2. copy and paste the text of the chapter a little at a time into the translator.
It's a pretty rough translation, but might help a little with the curiosity. :)

There are plenty of blogs out there against Christianity. You are right, I don't care for them. But those people have a right to speak their mind. And they do help me understand why different people would object to Christianity, and why kind of answers might help them find their way.

I can't help it if you do not like my blog, but if you think I'm wrong, please use this as a learning experience. Find good, credible answers for these objections people have against the WMSCOG.

Isa 43:11 I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior.

The name that is prayed to changes according to the age.
Last time I checked there were three ages.

Have someone preach to you about the bible and then u can go from there! It's really amazing... I've been in the truth for a couple of months now and I'm truly blessed thanks to Father and Mother!! if you're not in the truth you're never going to understand who to preach to and how to keep Gods Commandments...
