In talking with a WMSCOG member about the Passover and Communion, an interesting comment came up that I was reminded of today...
Even though the WMSCOG members take the bread and the cup of the Lord's Supper at Passover, they distinguish it from Communion in this way... Communion is done at any time, and even many times, during the year. But the Passover is done only once, on the appointed day and time.
They made a big deal about how Communion is not in the Bible (so they say), and not only that, the word "communion" is not even in the Bible (so they say).
Yes it is! The word "communion" IS in the Bible, but you have to look carefully. It's translated "participation" in the NIV, and "sharing" in the NASB, but read it here in the New King James Version:
1 Corinthians 10:16
The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
The Greek word there is "Koinonia" which means "fellowship, association, communion, joint participation, the share which one has in anything." And that word is used 19 times in the New Testament.
Even then they do not celebrate Passover at the correct time or date. It is done a day early to show that it is different than the Jewish tradition of Passover.
ReplyDeleteI've been keeping track of the wmscog observance of Passover compared to the date of observance by Rabbinic Jews. I have records since 2003. Sometimes they are on the same date, sometimes off by a day, and sometimes off by a whole month. It is not consistent.
DeleteThe last few years, they've been a day off from what Ive seen.
DeleteThey have been off on other feast dates also, but here is a list of their Passover observances. You can compare them with your Jewish calendar and let our readers here know what you find. (I found 5 dates the same as the Rabbinic Jewish calendar, 3 off by a day early or late, and 2 early by about a month--is that what you get?)

Also they were for Rosh Hashanah (Trumpets) and Yom Kippur (Day Of Atonement) by a day..
Considering they also do not follow the law when it comes to Yom Kippur:
THE DAY OF ATONEMENT
1.One day (no decree of two days for Diaspora because of danger) - from just before sunset until definitely night the next day- three medium size stars can be seen.
2.Honor of Yom Tov - self, clothing, environment.
3.Candle lighting. Many also light Yahrzeit candles: "The soul of man is the candle of G-d."
4.Begging forgiveness. The day only atones for sins between man and G-d. Sins against people require forgiveness from offended party in addition to Divine forgiveness. Offender must ask for forgiveness. Offended obligated to forgive (with certain exceptions).
5.Eating heartily on the day before Yom Kippur. Enjoyment of this world for right reasons is as spiritual as fasting. Also pragmatic reason. Festive meal - challah etc.
6.Stop eating before sunset - adding to Shabbat and Festivals.
7.Prohibitions: "You shall afflict your soul..."; not suffering; ignoring the physical, focus on spiritual.
a.Work - melacha - same as Shabbat
b.Eating and drinking
c.Washing (except direct cleansing of dirt)
d.Anointing - creams, lotions etc.
e.Leather or leather covered shoes
f.Intimacy
8.Pikuach nefesh - Danger to life (even doubtful) overrides all prohibitions of Yom Kippur.
9.Prayer - theme of repentance and forgiveness.
Kol Nidrei - All my vows. Custom of "permitting vows" on eve of Yom Kippur.
Service of the High Priest - Avodah at Musaf.
10.Viduy - Confession to G-d of sins. (To G-d alone - not to another person)
a.Standing
b.Bowed
c."Beating" heart
d.Sincerity
11.In addition to morning, Musaf, afternoon and evening services -
Ne'ilah - Closing of the gates - recited immediately prior to sunset.
Selichot and 13 attributes of mercy. Finishes with declarations of belief in G-d:
1.Shma Yisroel Hashem Elokeinu Hashem Echad
2.Baruch Shem Kavod Malchuto L'olam Va'ed
3.Hashem Hu Ha'elokim - "Hashem is G-d"
12.Shofar sounded after evening service. Fast ends.
13.Havdalah - wine, candle, no spices unless Yom Kippur falls out on Shabbos.
They eat on Yom Kippur after the services rather than fast.
I have a comment to make and please correct me if I'm wrong. When JESUS CHRIST was curcified, and then buried, he ressurected on the 3rd day, so should it not always be the same , we all know that ressurection day or (easter) is always on a Sunday, so shouldn't the passover always fall on a thursday. Do you follow me. The reason i ask is because On Aril 17, 2011 was the passover but ressurection day(easter) was on April 24, 2011. that's 7 days difference. It did not take Jesus 7 days to ressurect, after the passover, it took him 3. Now if you look at this years passover that makes more sense, April 5 2012 the passover and ressurection day April 8 exactly 3 days later, the rest of years I didn't even bother to check. To my understanding Jesus was curcified then rose on the 3rd day, so every year when its ressurection day (easter) day when Jesus rose, we need to go back 3 days and that will give us the day of the Passover. Does this make sense, or I am in error.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good question. Passover is always on the same day of the month, the 14th day of the 1st month of the Hebrew calendar. Just like January 1 falls on a different day of the week each year, so does Passover.
DeleteThe way you are trying to figure the date of Passover is actually backwards. You must know how to find the date of Passover before you can know the date of Easter, not the other way around.
In the year when Jesus was crucified and resurrected, the calendar was aligned so that the third day after Jesus was crucified (sign of Jonah, Matt. 12:39-40) was a Sunday (fulfillment of the Firstfruits, Lev. 23:11).
What you have noticed became part of the Easter controversy in the years that followed. (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/05228a.htm) Some Christians wanted to keep the day of remembrance only on Passover, no matter what day of the week it fell on. Others wanted to keep the remembrance all the way to Sunday, because the day of the week on which Jesus rose was also significant. (And sometimes there would be more or less than 3 days in between.) The focus on the Sunday resurrection was more common than the focus on the any-day-of-the-week-Passover, so it was adopted broadly in the name of unity among the believers.
That's why you see so many Christians today who keep the remembrance of the way it happened originally--Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Resurrection Sunday on the third day.
There are Christians who also mark the Passover, no matter what day of the week it falls on, because Jesus' fulfillment of the Passover does have great meaning too.
To the wms members looks like heavenly mother has exsisted since the 1800's your church is not so unique like they made you think. Does not your church say where there is a copy there was an orignal, you can't have a fake thing without the original first.Do they not say that they are the only ones who have mother. What about the moonies they also think they are our heavenly parents, SO where did the koreans get the mother thing from, click here and see open up your eyes and you will see your heavenly mother.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavenly_Mother_(Mormonism)
ReplyDeleteThis is true, the mormons believe in a mother god and father god, same claims as wmscog. I'm not saying that the possiability of a mother god is not true, but I'm saying that wmscog is not the first ones to speak of a mother god. I also can't believe that their mother jerusalem is the actual one. Futhermore Paul did not preach about a mother god, and he said in the bible that if anyone preaches to you a jesus instead of THE JESUS that he and the apostles preach, not to except it. ACTS 4:25, 2CORINTHIANS 11:2-5, DIFFERENT JESUS,DIFFERENT GOSPEL, DIFFERENT SPIRIT. Paul did not preach of a mother god he said in GALATIANS 4:24 THESE THINGS MAY BE TAKEN figuratively! and even if there is a mother god, our creator did not say to pray or bow down to her, and our prayer is called OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN. ANYTHING & EVERYTHING outside the HOLY BIBLE, is man made, including ASH BOOKS, the WMSCOG IS CHANGING THE WORDS IN THE BOOKS. They come here and to the other site to check out what people are talking about, then they make plans to correct it, except, the truth will always come out you can't hide everything. That's why they want to get rid of older members or the ones that ask too many questions, DAMAGE CONTROL, now they say mother says bare 10 talents so we can go home soon, if she is god why doesn't she change the peoples heart, so they can come to her on their own. I have seen the way she speaks on the videos and she does not speak with authority like Jesus did, she just speaks like a regular person, general pastor is the one that runs the show. members when you watch videos pay double the attention you will learn something new. You are not even allowed to exchange numbers or meet up with members unless they approve it, like really now, what are they so afraid off, if we have true god, and what god says so shall it be, don't be naive people, they are using alot of truth with lies, and that's why we tend to hang in there, because we say in our mind what if they are right. but enough is enough in mMY OPINION. The only reason i am still around is to protect my love ones, i'm not leaving without them!!! SHOW US HERE, why mother had to be hidden, where is the mystery in that, we see fathers & mothers here, so that is no surprise. like I stated above, if there is a mother god, OUR HEAVENLY FATHER, OUR CREATOR, THE LORD OF LORDS AND KING OF KINGS, THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA DID NOT ASK US TO PRAY OR BOW DOWN TO HER, where does it say that. HEBREWS 13:8-9
Deletehey Genny you need to copy & paste these questions over on the other site your on. This person is bringing up a good point. I wanna hear more on this and what WMSCOG members have to say about this. what do you think?
DeleteHi Rosie. Yes, there have been many good questions brought up here recently in the comments. I encourage everyone with such questions to make your way over to the forum on examiningthewmscog.com and get some conversations going. Or maybe you will find that similar questions are already being discussed. Either way, there are lots of interesting discussions going on there.
