Examining Prophecies--A New Name

A continuing look at the prophecies the World Mission Society Church of God uses to prove Ahn Sahng-Hong as God, the second coming Christ. Remember, the goal is to see if the prophecies point to Ahn Sahng-Hong as the unique one to fulfill them....

When Christ returns
He will come with a new name.
God’s people first called on the name of Jehovah to be saved, and then the name of Jesus. In the end days He will reveal a new name on which men must call to be saved.
Rev. 3:12 and Rev. 2:17

I don’t think Rev. 2:17 should be used for this prophecy since it says that the new name will be known only to the one it is given, and the name of Ahn Sahng-Hong is known by many people.  So that leaves us with one solitary verse about a new name, but it's a good one, so for the sake of argument let’s go with the WMSCOG interpretation. Does this help us narrow the list of candidates?  Who has a different name…?  Yes, Ahn Sahng-Hong fulfills this prophecy, and so do 99+% of the people in the world.  (That percentage is just my own guess, by the way.)  This prophecy would only rule out any person with the name of Jehovah or Jesus (or variants, like Yeshua or Joshua).  I can’t say I’ve met any human named Jehovah, but there are a fair number of men named Jesus on my side of the world and I know a Joshua—they’re out.

BUT, When God is referred to with a “name” in the Bible, it’s not meant as a name like “Bob” to tell Him apart from another god named “Joe.” Names that are used for God are deep with meaning and express an aspect of His character.

If God were to appear in the flesh again with a new name (as the WMSCOG claims), it would not be any of these previously used names (not just in words only, but in meaning, for these are Hebrew names, and translated to another language they might sound different, but would be the same name in meaning—like “John”, “Ian”, and “Sean” are the same names from different countries.)

I've seen a list of about 100 names of God, from Jehovah Shalom (the LORD of Peace) to El Emet (The God of Truth) to Elohei Mishpat (God of Justice) to Eloah Selichot (God of Forgiveness) to Immanuel (God with us) and Jesus (the Greek form of Joshua, which means "The LORD Saves").

I wonder… What does the name “Ahn Sahng-Hong” mean? And is it different in meaning from all the other names used for God in the Bible?

  1. Ahn(안)安 is a family name,
    Sahng(상)商 means trade/business/commercial,
    Hong(홍)洪 means something massive.
Parents create a name by combining the words that form a meaning of what kind of expectation they have for their child in future.

  2. Just wanted to say I really appreciate what you're doing here. I was a member of that church for over a year, and just recently had the courage to leave. I finally woke up. I feel for you, my ex-boyfriend is still so carried away by everything and I just pray one day he sees what I see. This church is so destructive, and not enough people are doing what you're doing! Anyway I can help at all don't hesitate to ask.

    2. Do lots of Prayer & make sure to listen very carefully at what God is trying to tell you because he answers you in the most mysterious ways. Read you bible, love. No one can tell you otherwise if you know what it says. Ask God to tell you what the verses mean and trust me he will answer you! Do not doubt him if you have one shred of doubt you will pay for it because you had no faith at the moment. He did it to me & I don't ever want to doubt him again. Please believe me, read your bible and trust me when someone gives you a verse & tells you "this is the meaning" then find the verse in the bible and read three pages behind and 3 pages ahead:give the meaning & helps a lot!
Best of luck Love & hope you found your faith by now. My God give you the answers you desire because when he knows a heart wants him he will come.

  3. Well according to Google Translate the name Ahn Sahng Hong means (This might sound funny) Sahng in Hong Kong. Well Genny your blog has served as a weapon to equip myself with knowledge that may help me in withdrawing my friends from the Church.

  4. Thank you so much for writing, Ammu.

That is funny. I think it has to do with it being a name and not a regular word.

I praise God that you have found my blog helpful and pray that you will be a good influence on leading your friends out of this group.

  5. Genny, thank you for all your posts. Now i have to find a way to share this with my son so I can get him out of this evil group. I wish there was a way to find an ex-member in the Seattle area....

  6. Thank you Devlin206. I pray your son will be able to see clearly soon. I wish there was an easy way to find former members to talk to also. The best way so far is to join the forum on examiningthewmscog.com website, or to join the facebook group -- both are linked are on my links page. There are a few ex-members out there willing to share and help, but I do with there were more.

  7. I have no words to express how I feel right now. I have scars left from that church. I particularly didn't leave because I stopped believing in the doctrine but it was because of the treatment I received from the church members (leaders, to be more specific). I was there for eleven months and I'm still trying to recover from all the wounds that it left me with. I don't even know what to believe anymore, hence I no longer practice Christianity as a whole. If any of you knows a former member who was there for longer than I was, please give me their email address so we can chat because I feel like the only people who can truly understand what I'm going through are the ones who stayed in the church for a reasonable amount of time

It's good that you are seeking help in your healing. I hope you can visit the forum soon and get in touch with others who can relate to your experience.

  9. I appreciated your blog my daughter recently joined the fellowship because they seem to be very popular on college campuses. She feels more drawn to Christ and in her bible more but that I believe is because the word says if we raise them by putting the word of God in them and teach it every opportunity when they get older it will not depart. She is seeking God Almighty "Truth" more than ever now. They preached part of God's word and twist the rest to their own means which makes it so inviting to those who are not strong enough to identify. I have been praying about this church for approximately a year because something in the church does not sit well in my spirit. I have asked God if it is correct to let it sit well with me but it does not. This has confirmed what I know to be right. Pray that I act in love I'm going to visit service again with my daughter and she wants me to do readings or bible study afterwards, my spirit that Christ has made righteous rises up like a lion every time I'm in the midst of this teaching and please pray that The Lord Jesus Christ open up another church home immediately where to replace the worship and fellowship my child and these other young people are now accustomed to but be in the right doctrine of Christ Jesus
Thank you and may the Lord God Almighty Christ Jesus bless you immensely for opening the eyes of the blind and setting the captives free.... This is the calling of some (apparently you) in Isaiah 42: 6-7
